Christmas in Dún Laoghaire 2017: Event Guide

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and throughout the festive season, there’s plenty of in Dún Laoghaire for people of all ages. To make sure you’re in the know about whats happening this Christmas, we’ve compiled this handy event guide, which includes everything from Sanat’s Arrival on 18th November, to Christmas Carols by Candlelight in the National Maritime Museum in December.

The merry Christmas Market on the Metals will be open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday with a feast for the senses featuring delicious festive fare, handcrafted gifts and decorations, a funfair with an old-world children’s carousel and a whole host of very special tempting treats.

Santa Comes to Dún Laoghaire Shopping Centre

Santa will be arriving at Dún Laoghaire Shopping Centre on Saturday 25th of November, so bring the kids along to meet him and make sure he gets their Christmas list.

Festive Afternoon Tea at The Royal Marine Hotel

Time: Daily from 2pm
Location: Royal Marine Hotel
Cost: €39 for 2 people

From Monday 27th November, The Royal Marine Hotel will be hosting Festive Afternoon Tea every day in the Bay Lounge, where you can enjoy some seasonal treats and a glass of Mulled Wine. Only €39 for 2 people.

Friday 1st December – 2nd January 2018

‘What Christmas Means to Me’ – Local School Art Project

Time: 5pm
Location: Throughout Dún Laoghaire
Cost: Free

Local primary school children from Dalkey School Project, Educate Together Monkstown, St Mary’s Booterstown, St Joeseph’s Primary School, Tivoli Road, St. Patrick’s Dalkey and Castle Park School, have all created art about what ‘Christmas Means to Me’.
The Artwork which will be displayed by School and Class will be put up in some of the vacant retail units throughout Dún Laoghaire and in the towns two shopping centre’s. The project was arranged by Dún Laoghaire Town.

Saturday 2nd December

Christmas at the Pavilion Theatre, DunLaoghaire with The Dublin Gospel Choir

Time: 8pm – 10.30pm

This December, on the back of their newly recorded Christmas album, Dublin Gospel Choir return to Pavilion, bringing a selection of Christmas favourites; some joyful, some uplifting, some nostalgic and some just downright funky!

Young European Strings Christmas Concert 2017

The internationally-acclaimed Young European Strings Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Ronald Masin and members of the YES Intermediate Orchestra are celebrating a Christmas performance for the whole family.
The Christmas concert features all our students – from the age of four years to nineteen years.
Our special guest this year is International and National Award Winning, 12 year old Daimee Ng violinist, playing J. Haydn’s violin concerto in C, accompanied by the Young European Strings Chamber Orchestra conducted by Ronald Masin.

Cara Dillon at The Pavilion Theatre

Come and join the exceptional Cara Dillon for a night of Christmas songs in what will undoubtedly be a magical and memorable festive experience. The Muppet Christmas Carol at The Pavilion Theatre

Acted to the parsimonious hilt by the human Scrooge (Michael Caine), and framed by author-narrator Charles Dickens (the Great Gonzo) addressing his rodent audience (Rizzo the Rat), the story survives.
All the pen-pushing glovesters in Scrooge’s office run on fear of dismissal, a topical note, with Bob Cratchit (Kermit the Frog) negotiating but nervous. Not so his wife Miss Piggy, ready to have a go at Scrooge, but mindful of the needs of their family, a brood as mixed as you would expect from pigs and frogs, which explains the medical condition of Tiny Tim, a froglet with a cough on crutches.

This moving and beautifully told film is a true masterpiece of cinema.
A tale of rivalry and despair at thirty, the story finds George Bailey (James Stuart) in turmoil, having been framed by his arch rival, torn between his own desires and aspirations, but struggling to always do the right thing. This inner conflict proves too much for Bailey, who sees suicide as the only option.

White Christmas at The Pavilion Theatre

White Christmas is a treasury of Irving Berlin classics, among them ‘Count Your Blessings Instead of Sheep’, ‘Sisters’, ‘Blue Skies’, and the beloved holiday song, ‘White Christmas’.
Two talented song-and-dance men (Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye) team up after the war to become one of the hottest acts in show business.

Home Alone at The Pavilion Theatre

Family comedy starring Macaulay Culkin as ten-year-old Kevin McCallister who is inadvertently left home alone by his family when they go on vacation.
On the evening before his family leave for their Christmas break to Paris, Kevin is banished to his room for misbehaving by his mother Kate (Catherine O’Hara). When he wakes the following morning he discovers he is alone in an empty house.

COLM LYNCH:

A veteran of the Irish music scene, Colm Lynch, hailing from the Dun Laoghaire borough has been entertaining crowds and playing out of his skin for close to 20 years now. He has released a number of solo works to date which was well received by radio and is currently working with his full live band Watson Ace who released their debut album ‘Backbone’ in 2016. His finest work to date.

n.c.lawlor would hesitate too self-apply the term singer-songwriter any more than song and dance man, especially being a resident of Dublin where there exist more singer-songwriters than migrant workers..turn over any rock and there you will find singer-songwriters.mostly he has busked..played in all manner of cheap restaurants..bars..venues etc.of late he has opened for some of the artists he admires, Billy Joe Shaver, Jim Lauderdale, James Burton, Kieron Kane, Kevin Whelch and Fats Kaplin.
